RIA Class Descriptions

 

JAZZ
RIA offers multi-level jazz technique classes for ages 5–adult. Class format combines jazz and modern techniques in warm-up, traveling floor progressions, center floor work and performance choreography. Emphasis is on strength, flexibility, endurance, and creative work. All JAZZ classes are held at the RESTON COMMUNITY CENTER.

BALLET
RIA ballet classes are geared for the jazz dancer with a focus on terminology and basic ballet technique to develop performance grace, strength, and flexibility. BALLET I and II classes are held at the RESTON COMMUNITY CENTER; BALLET III classes are held at the REHEARSAL HALL.

TAP
RIA offers a variety of rhythm tap classes for ages 6--adult. Class focus includes basic technique, rhythm patterns, and style/phrasing. Further emphasis includes improvisation and performance choreography. All TAP classes held at the REHEARSAL HALL. 

KINDERTAP
This class offers the 3- to 6-year-old an introduction to learning basic movement fundamentals, sounds, and techniques. Class is taught with a creative movement emphasis to develop confidence and focus for this age. Class is held at the REHEARSAL HALL.

ACTIN’ UP I AND II
ACTIN’ UP I is an intro to acting for the very young thespian. Technique is developed through theater games, improvisation, and scene development. ACTIN’ UP II intensifies the focus of improvisation, character, and scene development through group work and monologues. All ACTIN’ UP I classes are held at the RESTON COMMUNITY CENTER; ACTIN’ UP II classes are held at the REHEARSAL HALL. 

ADULT DANCE CLASSES
RIA offers adults classes in MODERN JAZZ, BEGINNING/INTERMEDIATE BALLET; and BEGINNER ADULT TAP. These classes are designed to give the dancer in us all a great workout, focus on technique, and fun choreography. All ADULT DANCE CLASSES are held at the REHEARSAL HALL.

VOCAL TRAINING CLASSES
RIA offers an exciting vocal training program for all ages who are interested in learning to perfect their vocal skills such as range, breath control, and various styles and presentation. This class is taught by international jazz recording artist and local Restonian, Beverly Cosham. Group interest meetings are scheduled at the beginning of each semester.
