• Fees – All costumes fees are $55 per student, per class. REACH!OUT DANCE Scholarship does not cover costumes fees.
All scholarship students are responsible for the costume fees.

ABOUT RIA

The Reston Institute for the Arts (RIA) is headquartered in Reston and Herndon, Virginia and was created to foster the area’s growing interest in the performing arts. RIA, a 501-C3, not-for-profit, tax-exempt corporation, is the only organization in the area whose ultimate goal is to combine dance, music, voice, and theatre into a fully integrated performing arts school for maximum enrichment of the entire community.

Established in 1981, RIA offers an annual program consisting of two semesters of dance, music, theatre instruction to students of all races, ages, national and cultural origins, income levels, and talents. Today, RIA is one of the area’s fastest growing arts organizations. Professionally trained staff offer weekly classes for youth in theatre jazz, ballet, tap; adult jazz, ballet, and tap; and vocal training at the Reston Community Center and Reston Community Player’s Rehearsal Hall in Herndon. In addition to classes, RIA sponsors the RIA Dance Ensemble, a dance troupe for local youth. They have performed at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, and numerous area schools and festivals.

We are Members of:

Art Alliance of Reston

Arts Council of Fairfax

Herndon Council for the Arts

National Dance Association

National Dance Educators Association

Selected events and activities are partially funded by the Arts Council of Fairfax, IBM, Jack and Jill, Inc., and private donations.

Kaleidoscope, Student Choreography Showcase - RIA students choreograph and perform their own original dances at a special event at the Reston Community Center Theater.

Lecture Demonstration - RIA students demonstrate what they have learned during their semester as they perform their daily technique, dance class progressions, and choreography on stage.

Spring Production - This culminating activity is an original dance production performed by all of the RIA dancers in full costume at the Reston Community Center’s Center Stage.

is a scholarship-based program designed by RIA to provide economically disadvantaged youth an opportunity to participate in a performing arts program as a means of expression, developing discipline and life skills. This program provides partial scholarships per semester in dance training, production, performance, and other related activities such as master classes and workshops. Scholarship students are selected from fall and winter auditions.

--- REFLECTIONS ---

If you missed our fantastic gala and celebration, you can still catch glimpses of the fun we had that evening.  Check out our 20th Anniversary Celebration reflections...

From the Tappers’ Corner...

Parents, if your tapper needs new tap shoes, feel free to check the tap box.  Our Tap Box is for everyone—turn in old shoes that no longer fit and pick up a pair that does.  If you’d like to order your tapper new tap shoes, go to www.discountdance.com and order tie up tap oxfords.  The various brands include Giordano, Capezio, and Bloch.  The brand will guide you through their sizing process.  Typical beginner tap shoes should cost around $18.00 Any questions, call Ms. Robin at 703-587-4448.

And...

I’m soooooo looking forward to seeing all of you each Saturday.

As we start working towards our Spring Production, I’d like you to do a few things for me:

  • Make every effort to be in class EVERY Saturday (we’ve got a lot of learnin’ to do)

  • BE ON TIME!

  • BE READY TO TAP and WORK HARD! (come with your ears on)

  • Make sure your parents know when to pick you up, on time, after class is over.

  • Please dress in your class tee-shirts, black dance pants, tap oxfords, and white socks.

  • Please communicate all  ‘honor-roll-makers’ to me!

     .........Ms. Robin
